Good afternoon everyone. A quick update for your consumption:
Looming Government Shutdown. We are getting very close to having to go through (yet) another government shutdown if appropriations can’t be secured for the Federal Government by Fri Dec 7th. I’ve heard enough people get confused as to why would this happen when the FAA just got a 5 year spending bill passed. The very short answer is that this is a 2 tier process. The FAA had funding approved. The Federal Government did not. Those 2 are separate and require approval as such. The unfortunate reality is that the Federal Government encompasses the FAA and so the FAA can get assurances of 5, 10 or even 50 year funding from the Federal Government but if the Fed get’s shut down, so to does the FAA.
As an aside, due to the passing of President H.W. Bush, a holiday will be observed on this Wed Dec 5th. Because of this, the growing notion is that due to the shorter than anticipated time to work out a deal prior to the Dec 7th lapse, a 2 week CR will be passed and we can go through all of this even closer to the Christmas Holiday. More to come on that.
All-Members Meeting. Please try and join us for our All-Members meeting on Mon Dec 10th @ 3pm. We will meet at the Rainbow Cafe in Auburn.
Lastly, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that the traditional “Christmas Beers” is happening on Fri Dec 14th from 2pm-??? at Longhorns BBQ in Auburn. Always a great time to meet up with past and present ZSE family.
As always, thank you for your time and allowing us to represent you. Hope to see you at the All-Hands meeting.
