Facility Update August 13th

Good Morning All!

NATCA Shirt Day

This Thursday, August 15th, will be our first NATCA shirt day. We will give out tickets to everyone we see wearing one, and all you need to do is write your name and area on it and put it in the black drop box in the hallway outside the control room. I will make a couple of trips around handing out tickets, and Chico will try to catch the swing shifters. If we miss you, though, find a rep, send a text, or let us know whichever way you would like to. We’ll get you the ticket! We will draw two names next week for a $25 gift card each. This month, it will be for The Rock, but if you have suggestions of places you’d like to see supported, please let us know. Next month’s date: Sunday, September 15th.

Eboard Meeting

Our next meeting will be on Saturday, we will be discussing the various schedule proposals for 2025. There is still a lot of work to be done, but the plan is to leave that meeting with a good idea of what schedule(s) we will negotiate for in next year’s MOU. We will also discuss another big piece of business: our next VP. As most of you know, Ligaya will transfer to Las Vegas TRACON at the beginning of October. We should have a name and planned changeover date that I will be able to announce to you shortly thereafter.

Thank you,

Amy

New Fatigue MOU

Yesterday, the new fatigue MOU was released. The basic requirements that the Administrator put out are present. You must have 10 hours between shifts and 12 hours between the day and the mid. The surprise addition is the required break in OT. That means that you will not be forced to work more than 2 weekends of OT in a row. The third set of RDOs will be protected. You can volunteer to work the OT but will not be forced to do so. The full MOU is attached HERE, but I will leave you with a couple of key points:

  • No part of this will take place until the 2025 schedule begins on January 12, 2025

  • We now have the ability to create an AWS line that includes a 6 hour shift but only for the day shift preceding a mid.

  • That 6-hour shift will not be bound by the current requirement to sign in no earlier than 5:30 am

  • The OT break protects that third set of RDOs but if you volunteer to work the OT, the starts the count over and the next two are not protected

  • Don’t worry about the OT tracking piece, the Overtime Collaborative Workgroup (OCWG) still needs to meet and come up with solutions.

  • The Agency has committed to not reducing leave opportunities

I know many of you have some great ideas for schedules, and we need them. This is going to take a lot of out of the box thinking. Please forward any and all suggestions up to your Area Rep.

Please let me know if you have any questions,

Amy Sizemore

Monthly NATCA T-shirt Day

At our last EBoard meeting, Kenny Courts suggested that we have a monthly NATCA shirt day. Everyone loved the idea, so I would like to announce that we will start this tradition on Thursday, August 15th. This will be on the 15th of every month. Wear your favorite NATCA shirt and get a chance to win one of two $25 gift cards monthly. Find a rep to get a ticket. We will announce the winners within the week following the 15th.

Communicating For Safety (CFS)

Next Thursday, July 25th, is the deadline to put in for excused absence to go to CFS. Go to the CFS website (linked below), fill out the national request form AND fill out, print the local request form, and turn it in to the OM desk. Please have them put the date/time on there when they sign it. If you think there is a possibility you can get off the schedule, go ahead and do these steps anyway. After you have secured the time off, you can register for CFS. CFS dates are September 16-18th. More info HERE.

Project 2025

I am sure most people are familiar with Project 2025 and its entails. What you might not know is how it will directly impact your job and our ability to protect you as a union. Northwest Mountain has put together an excellent presentation. The first of many briefings is today at 9 a.m., and I will be streaming it in the office. Please stop in, even if it’s only for a couple of minutes. If you’d like to stream at home, HERE is the link.

You will be hearing a lot about Campaign 2024 this year; please do not ignore it. I assure you that this is not hyperbole; this election is the most important one of our lives. Do not sleep on this. I will provide you with more information as I get it and will also provide you with opportunities to get involved.

Northwest Mountain T-Shirt Drives

There are two new NNM shirts available for purchase, I printed up a flyer and a QR code for each of them, they are in the bulletin board. The first one is for Pride month. All proceeds go to Inside Out Youth Services, a charity dedicated to serving the LGTBQIA+ youth community in Colorado. That one is available until July 6th. The second one just launched today and features two brand-new logos. These patriotic shirts will benefit Project Sanctuary, a charity created to focus on the families of military members nationwide. Here are the links if you would like to learn more and see the designs:
